Position

The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation is seeking a well-organized, outgoing and highly effective Director of Membership and Development who will help grow the Foundation’s membership, increase sponsorships for events, identify potential grant or other revenue opportunities and develop new ways to expand the reach of the Foundation’s work.

As a key member of the Foundation’s team, the ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in development or other fundraising experience for a non-profit organization; work well both independently and as a team player; be able to understand and communicate the policy issues we cover; and articulate to our supporters the value that the Foundation provides.

Responsibilities
 Develop and implement an annual membership plan, along with short-term strategies, for retaining and engaging existing members and recruiting new members.
 Develop and implement a revenue diversification strategy that includes sponsorships, grants and other potential revenue sources.
 Identify potential new companies from the various business sectors throughout the Commonwealth that would be willing to support the work of the Foundation financially and engage with the Foundation to promote its mission.
 Work with the Foundation’s staff, Executive Committee and Board of Trustees to support and leverage their fundraising and revenue diversification efforts.

 Manage annual membership dues renewal process in conjunction with the Office Manager.
 Generate membership reports and analysis of membership by industry, geographic region, and size.
 Respond to inquiries regarding membership
 Assist in the creation of marketing materials
 In conjunction with the Office and Project Manager, develop and maintain a membership database.

Skills and Experience
 Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing or a related field.
 A minimum of three to five years of membership, development, sales or other similar experience preferably for a non-profit organization.
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as CRM software such as Salesforce.
 Strong written and oral communication skills.
 Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.
 Ability to communicate effectively with the Foundation’s leadership team and other senior executives.
 Ability and demonstrable experience working as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
 Commitment to and understanding of the Foundation’s mission and the ability to convincingly convey its value to potential supporters.

Additional Preferred Skills
 Media and communications experience, including traditional and social media platforms.
 Web and computer skills (including integration of written marketing materials with web tools).
 Ability to conduct basic research and/or policy analysis; familiarity with the legislative process.

Salary and Benefits

The Director of Membership and Development position may be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate’s experience and salary requirements. Salary is competitive based on qualifications and experience. MTF provides generous benefits including health and dental care, flexibility, paid sick and vacation time, and 403(b) retirement plan.
