Job description:

The Vice President, Program and Grantmaking plays a key role in overseeing the Foundation’s programs that are advancing health equity through a focus on community health and health access.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President is a critical member of the senior leadership team and will oversee programs that are advancing health equity through a focus on community health and health access. The Foundation’s grantmaking emphasizes collaborative, place-based grantmaking that addresses social and economic factors to create generational change.

The Vice President will enhance the Foundation’s grantmaking to improve health in Eastern Massachusetts while fostering cross-sector partnerships, maximizing resource impact, and building the visibility of the Foundation’s contributions to the fields of social impact and health equity. The Vice President supervises program staff.

Education & Experience Required

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field required.

  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience.

  • Leadership experience across multiple sectors, including philanthropy, grantmaking, and cross-sector partnerships, with a strong background in building and leading high-performing, mission-driven teams and creating scalable impact. Government experience is a plus.

  • Experience in engaging with government, business and community leaders across diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated depth of experience building and sustaining high-performing teams, with a focus on developing internal organizational capacity and excellence.

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and scale complex initiatives with sizeable and measurable social impact.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support high-performing teams in a collaborative nonprofit environment and create shared leadership structures that achieve measurable community impact with mission-aligned outcomes.

  • Commitment to health equity and the mission of the Foundation.

  • Ability to apply a racial justice, disability justice, and gender equity lens to programs and work products as well as staff culture.

  • Understanding of the grantmaking process, equitable grantmaking practices and change management at the organizational level. Expertise in leveraging philanthropy to drive social change.

  • Expertise in health, community health, and social determinants of health.

  • Understanding of systems change and power building, with experience navigating complex policy and political environments and fostering collaborative solutions to social challenges.

  • Demonstrated executive presence and stakeholder relationships in Eastern Massachusetts.

  • Superlative communication skills through multiple channels and across a range of audiences, with the ability to inspire both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and operate under pressure and tight timelines.

  • Ability to understand, analyze and communicate about policy, research and programs, with facility with quantitative and qualitative strategies, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience with evaluation of multi-site, multi-year community and health-related initiatives.

  • Excellent people skills, tact, diplomacy, and strategic communication skills, with an understanding of power dynamics within philanthropy and a commitment to team-building and mentorship.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with advisory and governing boards, including experience aligning grantmaking with community priorities and strategic objectives.

  • Passion for the Foundation’s mission, commitment to community engagement and a deep understanding of health equity and community impact, particularly in Eastern Massachusetts.

  • Multi/Bilingual/cultural background is desirable.
